Tom is passionate about keeping people active and independent throughout their life.
He's tried his hand at most sports as a kid, everything from rugby league to Baseball to Pole Vault! (not always with much success, but we don't hold that against him). He is a big advocate for active rehabilitation, maintaining involvement in sport where possible around an injury, and building the rehab program around your specific goals.
Whilst on placement in Coffs Harbour, he experienced the terrific impact physiotherapy can have on complex pain presentations and chronic illness’ such as osteoporosis, sarcopenia, stroke and cancers. He ended up writing his honours project on Physiotherapy impacts for head and neck cancer patients, and since graduating finds great satisfaction in helping older Australians to stay independent and in their homes for as long as practicable.
Tom’s interest areas include:
- Fighting frailty with strength, balance and mobility training.
- Sports injuries, athletic development, and injury prevention strategies.
- Management of chronic and complex pain presentations
- Pre and post-operative rehabilitation programs
- Point of Care Ultrasound for screening and grading of injuries to facilitate rapid referral where needed, or simply better predict rehabilitation timelines to help optimise recovery.
