How Injuries Happen

How injuries happen
Musculoskeletal injury occurs when the physical load on anatomical structures (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, articular cartilage, other connective tissues, nerves and blood vessels) are greater than the physical capacity (either instantly or over time) of these structures.

Acute onset injuries
Acute onset injuries are associated with a relatively short exposure to forces that exceed a tissue’s capacity.

Over Period of time or Cumulative onset injuries occur as a consequence of relatively long term exposure to load. The mechanism of injury is a result of an accumulation of micro-damage at a rate which exceeds the tissue’s capacity for repair.

Understanding the underlying risk factors including awkward postures, exertion, static or repetitive movement patterns, exposure, environmental factors and how these interact is key to resolving and preventing future issues.

Our approach is hands on. We aim to get to the root cause of your issue to understand the underlying pathology.

• Clinical interview - to understand your issues and causes
• Biomechanical assessment - To analyse movement patterns
• Differential diagnosis - to get to the root cause
• Discuss treatment pathways - understand goals and develop cunning plan with you
• Hands on treatment and specific exercise prescription - by physio in session
• Home exercise and self management - how you can help yourself
